The GPS Designer is a revolutionary new product that enables users to make quick and accurate site plans using a hand-held MobileMapper CX unit and GPS technology.

The GPS Designer is the first of its kind in the landscape design industry. An easy-to-use, straightforward application, it completely replaces the need for old-fashion tools such as distance wheels and measuring tables to measure properties for creating site plans. Instead, a Magellan Mobile Mapper CX hand-held unit “marks” your position wherever you go on the property and then automatically calculates the required measurements.

An Example
A simple example of how the GPS Designer works would include a landscape designer interested in calculating the area of a rectangular yard. Instead of manually measuring out the distance with a measure wheel, the landscaper could walk to each corner of the yard, click the button on the Mobile Mapper CX unit and “mark” the GPS coordinates. By using these GPS coordinates, the GPS Designer will automatically determine the area of the yard. No manual calculations are required.

Of course, the GPS Designer can handle much more complicated measurements then the simplified example above. You can use the GPS Designer to mark objects on a site such as trees, shrubs, beds, lampposts, fences, etc. Once you return to your office, you can download this information into Corel Designer 12 and watch as your site plan is instantly drawn for you. For even greater efficiency, you can take advantage of the integrated Bluetooth technology to wirelessly download the information to your laptop onsite. This means you can measure the property and produce the site plan in the same trip.

Automatic Drawing
What do we mean that your site plans will be "automatically drawn" using the GPS Designer? Well, it's exactly as it sounds. Because you preprogram the MobileMapper with all of the symbols you typically include in your site plans, it knows where to include objects and what symbols to use to represent those objects. So, if you mark 10 trees with the MobileMapper CX, when it sends the information to your computer, it will automatically add 10 tree symbols to your site plan. In this way, your entire site plan is created without you having to interact with the imaging software at all. THAT'S PRETTY SMART!

Automatic Estimating
Not only does the GPS Designer automatically draw site plans for you, it automatically generates estimates, as well. This is possible because you can assign properties - such as cost per unit - to each symbol preprogrammed into the MobileMapper CX.

For example, if you indicate that Tree #1 costs $25, and you add 10 units of Tree #1, the total cost is automatically added to your job estimate. When you have completed the entire site plan design, the GPS Designer has already totalled the cost and broken it down for your customer in a professional estimate. You just have to hit Print
