How to import a PDF and set it to scale
Step 1: Open the Corel Designer 12 program.
Step 2: Click on File > Templates. This will bring up the template screen(See Caption 1). Click on the Engineering tab and then
choose the 1=10 option in the list and click OK. A new blank template should appear on your screen and it should look like Caption 2.
Step 3: You should change your Units of measure to Feet. Click on the drop down list on the top menu bar where it says
Inches(See Caption 3) and click on Feet. This will change the ruler measurements as well as the page size. There are two text
boxes which should say 360' and 240'(See Caption 3). Since our document is 1:10 this shows that the 36" wide page measures 360' to scale. If you
will be printing on 8.5x11" paper the print size is 8" x 10" so we need to change the page width to 100' and the height to 80'.
You can click on the text boxes to type in a new number. After typing in a new value you can just hit the Enter key to lock in
the changes. Your screen should look like Caption 4 now.
Step 4: Your borders and title box are no longer in sight but they are still on the screen. If you have a mouse with a scrolling
ball you can roll it back a couple clicks or click on the zoom tool and right click twice to zoom out. Then you should have the
same view as in Caption 5. If you do not wish to keep the borders and title box you may delete them. To resize them press Ctrl + A
keys to Select All. Once you have selected the border and title box there will be black boxes around the edge. With the Pick Tool
selected you can click and drag the corner and side boxes to stretch and shrink the size until it fits inside the page border, as
shown in Caption 6.
Step 5: Now that the template is resized and your paper dimensions are set you are ready to save this template so you can reuse it
again later. To save this document click on File > Save As. This will bring up the Save Drawing menu. Choose a folder destination
to save it where it will not be lost or overwritten. Next change the Save as type list to a CDT(Corel Designer Template). From this
point forward if you wish to use the 8x10 template you need to go to File > Open and then open this document and your scale will already be set.
NOTE: If you do not wish to use the 1:10 scale but you want to print on a 8x10 sheet you can change the
scale by click on Tools > Options. In the Options menu click on the +Document to expand the list. Then
click on Rulers. In the menu to the right we need to click on the Edit Scale button. Simply change the
scale to whatever you need in the text boxes and then click OK to get back to the drawing and the rulers
and page size will change automatically.
